The new Gastonia store marks Academy’s 14th North Carolina location
KATY, TEXAS (May 10, 2019) – Academy, Ltd. d/b/a Academy Sports + Outdoors, a sports, outdoors and recreation lifestyle retailer, dedicated to making it easier for everyone to enjoy more sports and outdoor fun, opened its first store in in Gastonia, N.C., located at 3580 E Franklin Blvd. The new store is approximately 63,000 square feet and brings around 60 new jobs to the community. This marks Academy’s 6th Charlotte metropolitan area store, with another location opening in Mooresville, N.C. next month.
“We are excited to continue our expansion in the Charlotte metropolitan area with this new, convenient location in Gastonia,” said Sam Johnson, Academy Sports + Outdoors’ executive vice president of retail operations. “Whether customers are navigating the trails of Crowder’s Mountain or spending the day at the US National Whitewater Center, Academy Sports + Outdoors has the products and services needed for sports and outdoor fun.”
Customers can expect to find everyday low prices and a strong product assortment from brands such as Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, Magellan Outdoors, and Columbia. The store will have everything customers need for their next outdoor adventure, including hunting, fishing, and camping gear, as well as sports equipment. The store will also carry a wide variety of leisure products, footwear, apparel, patio sets, barbeque grills, and much more, paired with exceptional customer service. Customers will be offered services such as scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling, propane exchange and the ability to purchase hunting and fishing licenses.
Prior to the grand opening, the store partnered with the Gaston County Family YMCA to donate $250 shopping sprees to 10 local mothers for Mother’s Day. Each Gaston County Family YMCA mother was nominated by their child to shop for new sports and outdoors equipment, apparel, footwear, and more.
Beginning tomorrow, the community is invited to the store’s two-day grand opening celebration. The free events include giveaways, interactive demonstrations by brands sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors, games for the whole family and much more. In addition to the numerous events are Academy mystery gift card giveaways, free Academy t-shirts, and more.
